Introduction
Ajax Systems is gaining a strong reputation for high-performance, professional-grade security products that remain surprisingly user-friendly. The following review covers five key devices provided to us in their ecosystem:
- Hub 2
- MotionCam
- LeaksProtect
- DoorProtect
- Doorbell
All products were tested in a normal terraced residence, with the app as a central control point.
It’s important to caveat that these are all professional security products, and as such we would recommend a professional installation where possible. However, if you have decent level of understanding (for example, devices need power via dedicated wiring), DIY installation is possible.
Note: A StarterKit is also available for purchase from Ajax Systems.
Out of the box
The devices that were provided were all black and look sleek and have relatively average sized footprints, although the MotionCam and DoorProtect devices were verging on the larger side of things, so if discretion was required in the placement of these, careful consideration would be needed.

Note that devices are also available from Ajax Systems in white.
Hub 2 & Ajax App
The Hub 2 is a core device of the Ajax system, capable of managing up to 100 devices and communicating via Ethernet and dual-SIM (2G/3G/4G) connections. It uses two RF protocols:
- Jeweller for standard device communication (range up to 2000 m)
- Wings for transmitting images from devices like MotionCam
It includes tamper protection, 16-hour battery backup, and support for up to 50 rooms and 50 users.
Testing
Device registration was exceptionally smooth-most sensors paired almost instantly using QR codes (although note that the code is TINY). During testing, the Hub maintained fast response times and seamless communication even across solid internal walls and multiple rooms (I had the hub placed in a Harry Potter like cupboard under my stairs). Alarm delivery via push notifications was near-instantaneous, with no noticeable lag. There was even a firmware upgrade that was automatically triggered and completed quickly whilst testing.
App Integration
The Ajax mobile app (tested on Android) offers complete system visibility and control. Real-time status updates, zone assignment, and user access control were all easy to configure. The system armed/disarmed reliably on both manual and scheduled commands, and test alarms triggered both locally and remotely within seconds. It should be noted that if you require a siren, this must be purchased separately – the Hub 2 has no means to trigger an audible alarm without one.
The one negative I found about the app and Ajax ecosystem is that there is no home automation integration apparently available (for example with Google Home or Alexa). Arguably for most users this may be a good thing in order to ringfence their security away from perceivably “less secure” systems, but personally I like keeping my smart home controls in one place.

MotionCam
The MotionCam combines a PIR sensor with a built-in photo camera that captures a burst of still images (up to five) upon movement detection. With a 0.15 second detection response and sub-9-second image delivery over Ajax Systems’ “Jeweller” protocol, it adds critical visual confirmation without video streaming overhead.
The camera also includes IR night vision, pet immunity (not tested), and 4-year battery life.
Testing
Image quality was clear, even in low-light conditions. The IR illumination provided sharp enough images to identify movement source and direction. During simulated intrusions, image sequences arrived in under 8 seconds and included timestamped, motion-anchored frames.
App Control
The MotionCam is another device that works really well with Ajax System’s app, with settings for delay, sensitivity, and photo quantity that were responsive and reflected changes in real-time. The ability to disable photo capture outside of alarm conditions helped maintain privacy without compromising its main function.
LeaksProtect
LeaksProtect is a compact, battery-powered water sensor rated IP65 with four conductive pads. It triggers instantly on moisture contact and communicates via Jeweller with a range of up to 1300 m.
Testing
Placing a damp cloth under the unit immediately triggered an alert, with notification delivered to the app in just under 3 seconds. Moving the sensor activated the displacement tamper alert correctly. There were no false triggers during the dry test period. The compact design made it easy to place in tight areas.
DoorProtect
The DoorProtect is a fairly standard door (and window) sensor that uses a magnetic reed switch to detect door/window opening events. It features long-range wireless connectivity, tamper alerts, optional shock detection, and battery life of up to 7 years. There are 2 magnetic contacts and a main sensor, with one of the contacts designed to look the same as the main sensor despite apparently providing just the same magnetic contact as the other contact.
Testing
Installation was quick, and positioning was flexible thanks to the strong magnets. Open/close events registered instantly in the app, and when armed, triggered full alarm conditions without delay. Signal stability remained strong through solid wood doors and reinforced frames.
Zone assignment and event history tracking were smooth, and alerts arrived on both push notification and email in under 2 seconds.
Ajax Doorbell
This new addition combines HD video, two-way audio, IR night vision, and full Ajax Systems alarm integration. It operates via Wi-Fi but retains local alert capabilities even during internet outages. This may have been the device I was most impressed with.
Mounting options were great thanks to the two angled brackets provided in case you didn’t want the doorbell pointing straight ahead, and as with all the other devices, a variety of screws and plugs were available.
Setup was again super quick and easy on the app.

Testing
Once connected on WiFi, video stream quality was sharp with good colour balance in daylight and solid black-and-white clarity at night, with only a very slight lag noticeable. The infrared range covers roughly 7 metres. Two-way audio was clear, with no echo or clipping. Push notifications for doorbell presses and motion events appeared in the app quickly, within 2-3 seconds.

Snapshot capture on button press worked reliably, and cloud/NVR integration was available, although not tested.
Final Thoughts
- Professional installation is recommended, especially for layout optimisation and signal performance. Ajax also recommends taking advantage of alarm monitoring services.
- Device registration was fast and seamless, typically completed in seconds via QR, although the QR codes are very small.
- Response times were consistently under 2 seconds, with alarms and photos reliably delivered.
- MotionCam and Doorbell stand out for their visual verification functionality and low latency.
- LeaksProtect is quietly and surprisingly effective, reacting instantly in a test setup.
Ajax Systems offers a highly polished, professional-grade smart alarm system that blends robust security performance with an excellent mobile app experience. The system consistently delivered fast responses, high-quality image verification, and quick and seamless device registration, all while maintaining strong wireless signal even in older homes with thick walls. While the system carries a relatively premium price, it clearly outperforms typical consumer DIY kits and offers peace of mind through its reliability, ease of use, and speed. For homeowners serious about real-time security and smart control, I can definitively recommend Ajax Systems’ products.
